Artist's Comments

I took this around Apr 26. Not sure why I hadn't uploaded it then.

No idea what kind of owl this is...all I know, is, that it looks like my cat ;)

[Update]
Thank you Tommiboy!
It has been confirmed, this is a "Western Screech Owl"...
But it still looks like my cat lol

;) Thank you very much! I think he's a Barred owl, it's hard to find those tiny ones, here in Oregon. He was a pretty decently sized owl. I'd say, over a foot and a half? I've seen those tiny ones before though, they are more like ten inches tall...lol they're cute!

How'd you get so close. Or is it a great zoom lens?
Lovely gallery btw :)
:iconlatrodectus-pallidus:
480mm equivalent zoom lens reallly helps ;) I use only a 300mm lens but on a crop sensor camera, that's equivalent to the above zoom range.

Anyway,
I find that the best luck one can have, is to go on one of the more common and popular walking parks/trails. Owls, Herons, Bald Eagles, and Osprey are extremely high in number in Oregon but when I go out to a remote area, I find taking pictures of Heron (for example) to be next to impossible without using blinds...even then, they are very keen and will flutter away once having heard something they can't see. My Osprey and Heron shots were taken in a more popular area for hikers, it makes it so much easier, because, they know that (for the most part) people will leave them alone. The Kestrel and owl photos were made easier doing this as well :D

hmmm makes scense, thanks for the info!
i usely take landscape pics. I've never realy tried wildlife pics, so i've not brought a zoom lens ...yet. But it looks like a rewarding subject matter, so maybe i'll give it a try. :D

:highfive: Yeah, it's definitely a challenge :D
